Our days are numbered and yet how flippantly we sometimes spend them.  We consider ourselves millionaires of time and so we fritter away our lives, convinced this precious resource is never going to be exhausted.   At some level, we know that we all have numbered days, but we believe they extend so far into the future that they carry no current burden for us. Most of us have read many words on the life of Steve Jobs, the developer of Apple Computer, who died of pancreatic cancer on October 5^th.  He accomplished so many amazing things, and around the world, his death was proclaimed as the loss of one of the greatest minds in history.

A patient told me this week that in his Sunday School class, his teacher asked if anyone present had ever experienced an actual miracle in his or her life.  It is a question worth contemplating.  Reports of miracles are found in all world religions.  In ancient India miracles functioned as both signs and wonders.  Read the rest of this entry »

We start out on our journeys in life, each of us with ambition and dreams and great anticipation that we will live out our own personal fairy tale.  And the years roll by.  Things happen that we didn’t expect.  Problems come.  Illness occurs.  The unbreakable things in life break.  Our faith gets tested.  Our resources give out and we find ourselves alone, wondering how did we get to this place? How we see the world and what we see in the world is related to how carefully we have trained ourselves to pay attention to all the experiences that surround us.  The world is full of a great array of things – fullness and loss, joy and sadness, exhilaration and fear.  Living with vision means that we are open to all experiences of life and we are able to confidently walk into dark places in anticipation of God’s wonder guiding our pathway.
